What's In My Bag?

Updated 11/14/2011:   Just about every week someone asks me what I play so I thought it might help if I share with my viewers what I carry in my bag.  Keep in mind I am always trying new shafts, grips and different component heads just so I have a better understanding of the performance of the products on my website.

For the record, my current handicap is 11.6 so I am not a great golfer but better than average. I'm 63 years old, 6' 3” tall and weigh around 215 with a driver swing speed of 100 mph.  If I worked hard on my short game from 50 yards in I could knock 5-6 strokes off my handicap but my bad knees make practice impossible and I'd rather just play with my friends and enjoy my game as it is.  I maintain several sets of irons and drivers so things are always changing but here's what is currently in the bag.  When I switch clubs I will usually stay with the change for several weeks to allow for adjustment if required and to give the clubs a good review period.

Driver:  I play several drivers and part of the fun of having this small business is trying different shaft/head combinations.  I just placed a new driver in the bag.  Head is Alpha RSP Launch Draw with a Harrison Saga 70 R flex shaft and a Pure Wrap grip.  I also have been playing an Adams Speedline Draw with Graman UL440 "Limey" R flex shaft.  Both drivers are outstanding for me but I attract lots more attention with the "Limey".  Everywhere I go people come over on the practice tee to find out what it is.

Fairway Metal:  Here is my VS-88 II Titanium #3 which is the best fairway metal I have ever offered.  It has a deeper face than several of the newer fairway metals which I prefer as I use it mostly off the tee.  Shaft is UST Proforce V2 Hybrid 335.  Great fairway metal shaft as well as hybrid shaft.

Irons:  My graphites are back in the bag.  I had been playing the Alpha Silver Diamond RX-Tour heads shafted with the new Apollo CWS (constant weight steel) taper tip shafts in R flex and Pure Wrap grip.  This iron is made of 431 stainless but I was able to easily adjust the lie a degree.  It plays strong, hense the name Tour, as the lofts are around 3° stronger than standard.  The CWS shaft also is quite strong because of the stout tip section and I immediately noticed a lowering from my standard trajectory.  This shaft is too strong for me and until I pull the shafts and soft step them they won't be player again by me.   My graphites refers to the Alpha Luxe 85 shaft in my SVG-3031S head.  This is the best graphite shaft I have ever played and I have tried a few.

Wedges:  My wedges are currently the same as my irons, Alpha Luxe 85 shafts in my SVG-3031S heads.  My wedges are swing weighted to D4 while my other irons play at D2.  I prefer the feel of the heavier wedge in my short game even though my short game remains pretty anemic.

Hybrids:  Currently in the bag are a 19°, 22° and 25° iDrive hybrid.  The #3 and #4 are shafted with old UST IROD R flex hybrid shafts from maybe 2005 and the #5 has a new UST AXIVCore Blue R flex hybrid shaft.  All of course with Pure Wrap grips.

Putter:  My putter is a SVG-4012 heel/toe weighted blade with milled face, UST Frequency Filtered shaft and a UST ST1 mid-size pistol style putter grip.  This is one great putter!
